Hi,

Nortons is garbage an is designed in my opinion to make it almost impossible to remove from your system. They just love to create conflict with fragments are the entire program left in your system.

In my spare time I like to test antivirus/antispyware software to see if they perform as claimed and if there are any embedded malware in the program or the wizard installer used to quide you through the installation.

One big hell of a mistake when I test Nortons. It was almost impossible to remove. I did manage so I thought with add/remove some of Nortons.

What I had left was over 350 fragments glued to all my files/folders and hidden all over my system that caused serious conflict with my entire system.

Lucky, I have a purchased program from http://www.rosecitysoftware.com... Download their Registry First Aid. During the evaluation period you can remove all of Nortons and the fragments if you are smart and follow my instructions.

RFA will make a back up first of your entire system before it scans. Your first scan will be "Check registry for errors". Delete everything checked marked next to green yellow and red boxes. Don't worry about the red box as you have a backup.

I have used program for over nine years an it never has removed a good registry key.

Now Here is the hard part.

In the program you will see many options to search. You want to open "Search the registry".

1. Type in "symantec", click on add and symantec will drop down into the area where the scan will take place.

2. Delete at the top symantec and type in "nortons" click on add and nortons will drop into the area for scan.

3. Now scan. Everything in your registry related to symantec and nortons will appear.

4. You will see a thick arrow pointing down on the right side of each description of the registry key. Left click with your mouse so that it will open and drop down to where it says "cut registry string".

5. Perform this with each an every registry key related to symantec & nortons.

6. When this is completed you will have a backup of all cut registry strings. You can find them at start, search files, type in: "backups", scan your system. You will see RFA backups at the top open and there are the cut registry keys. You don't want to restore them just delete them.

7. Perform the same procedure with search files, only this time type in: "nortons", and scan. Remove all files that you can. Next type in "symantec", scan and remove all files.

Now reboot your system.

After you reboot your system open start, run: type in "symantec" click on browse, click on program files and look at all your files and you should see "symantec". Then delete the file. And reboot again.

This will clean out Nortons. Never use this junk as it is a real ripp off. Plus it will find nothing, big resource hog and cause you tons of grief.

Here is a free program and you don't have to be a member of AOL. Download from AOL, Kaspersky, powered by kaspersky out of Russia. As excellent background scanner that also works on shutdown and bootup. Plus updats auto. every hour on the hour. I use this program and you don' even know that any resources are being used.

if you have problems uninstalling any program not just nortons it's usually because uninstall information is not correct or corrupt to correct this just install the software again over the top of what's already installed then reboot then go through the uninstall procedure again. Norton internet security will take a while to uninstall and may not seem to be responding at times try it again and be patient leave it about 15 - 20 min if there's no progress after that time do the above and reinstall the uninstall.
