Well, it sure makes asking questions like this a lot easier, doesn't it?
It, along with cell phones, has made it to where instant communcation with friends and others is always possible. I think this has made us addicted to the rapid feedback, and the rapid gratification that can from from an instant message or finding an email in the inbox. Gradually, it is destroying our patience and our ability to concentrate on a task. Of course, I am saying this as I sit here using Yahoo! answers, AIM, read the news, listen to music, and work on writing a paper.

The internet is one of the most important technological tools that has fundamentally changed our lives the world over. Tools are a mode of change, of making things easier, and usually do fundamentally change the world: i.e. the wheel, flying, radio and tv waves, x-rays, etc. It has become a huge distraction because it is information overload, yet, at the same time, it has "flattened" the world, and made us a global community. I doubt if we have seen the pinnacle of the internet yet. It is constantly in flux, and as one idea spurs another idea, it will just continue to morph over time. But I think you already knew all this -- thanks for asking!
