Apparently people don't trust politicians. They lie. They have ulterior motives. They only want to stay in office and will say anything.

If that's so, is it only the other guys that lie? Is it only the major parties or are the third parties just as bad? How can you support anyone with the attitude that everyone lies? Are we always chosing the lesser of multiple evils? That would definitely say that this country is not operating at its best.

I take what they say at face value...but then again, I have an excellent memory, and if they don't follow through, I start to distrust. But I start out with my heart in the right place. Even when the decision to go to war with Iraq was announced, and I felt a knot in my stomach, I still gave it the benefit of the doubt. then the stories changed....

One thing is to look at their past voting records.. which is why a Presidential candidate needs an established track record. Another is party platforms.

The politician that answers your question with no strings attached. You can tell when a politician is playing politics with his answer by not giving a stright answer.

Look to their background to see what they did. If their past lines up with their future promises, you can be a little more assured they will follow through on them. If they don't, then you should question their integrity and not support them.

I look at their past statements and voting records. I also look for indications of what issues they feel are important and their opinions on those issues.

Take a look at their voting records. See who endorses them. See who gives them money.
