For those of you who live in a cold winter climate like me, you got motorcycle cabin fever yet? I put mine in storage in October, but we have had such goofy weather here (Western PA) with everything from snow to 65 degree days. I'm already itchin to go, and we still have like 3 months to go!! I love to ride, but I'm not hard core enough to go out in the cold. Plus, I don't want all that salt on my bike, and some places still use cinders on the roads too. So how bout you guys?

if the roads are bone dry and free of snow/ice, i'll ride year round. i even break the new year in right....a little run on the scoot on new year's day; as long as the roads are dry, i'll take it out.
there's a thing called a hose....its used to wash the bike. also handy for removing road salt.
if ur bike doesnt have a windshield, add 1. not having the windblast full force in the chest helps. dress in layers, wool socks, full face or 3/4 shell helmet with face shield, and top it off with leather. this can easily keep u warm enough for a 25 mile ride in temps at 25 degrees; been there, did it last year, gonna do it again this year.
if u want to spend the money, there's heated gloves, vests, jackets...and their not cheap. u could buy heat packs in the army/navy store cheap, and 1 pack will last 8 hours.
generally, u'll find the loose gravel or cinders on the shoulder, or very close to the center line. intersections will be the most hazardous. dont ride like a bat out of hell and u'll be fine. unless the road is wet, u wont get salt on the scoot. just ride when the road is dry and that will eliminate the chances of encountering ice.

October!!! That seems a bit early to put the bike in storage. I live in the midwest and have never given up for the season until at least December. When the temperature drops below freezing the chance of hitting ice makes me give it up for the season. There are usually enough days in November to justify holding off putting my Harley away till the spring. I put it away about two weeks ago when we received 10.7 inches of snow. I am going through withdrawal symptoms now and cabin fever is settling in. I combat it by reading lots of bike magazines, looking forward to the February international motorcycle show in Chicago, and surfing motorcycle sites on the web. Try it, these things won't cure cabin fever, but they help, sort of.

I ride a 2001 Goldwing in Delaware and try to keep it on the road as much as possible. I have "stored" it only once doing all the winterizing things and putting a cover on it. That lasted a week. I ride down into the 20's before I pull out the car. As long as there is no snow and ice on the road. Just a leather coat and jeans, no heated gear. Guess I get that from my snowmobiling days in Michigan.

Enjoy!

I had about a week last month that I couldn't go, and the storm that's hitting now looks like it'll keep the bike in the garage for another month!

If it's dry and above 30, I'm riding. You just need good gear and to understand that your tires will NEVER really warm up.

Guess that's what I get for living in Colorado, but I wouldn't change a thing!

Mine never gets really put away. I will ride as long as I can get out of my driveway. The bike always needs a bath. When people ask "Are you crazy?" I just smile. When they tell me I am, I smile and say "Thank you". There's just too much sunshine to waste. My friends are starting to give me a hard time, too. Comments like "That's a collectors edition, it's worth big money. Your gonna ruin it!" I believe a motorcycle is meant to be ridden and I ride mine.

I'm in Madison, WI--42 degrees. I saw a bike out today and a couple bikes were out Sunday. Got me thinking about getting the bike out again, even though we also have our snowblower ready to go.

Not yet. We've been lucky here in Syracuse. We haven't got much snow at all so far this winter....we usually average almost 200 inches of snow in winter!!!!
