Whatever song you choose you must feel connected to it and the performance must come from the heart. You cannot fake it. There really is no one perfect song. The distinction is whether you are expressing yourself soulfully and emotionally. Choose a song that makes you feel alive, or sad, or happy- and then translate that feeling into a performance. People want to be moved. They want to live vicariously through lyrics and musical expression.

I know you are in elementary school- so I say this: Pick a song you LOVE, that you play well, and then endeavour to make the audience feel what you feel too.

Many judges will let an imperfect performance/audition go if they know that "feeling" is there. It's what people want. They want to feel.

Beatles songs are easy to play and usually teacher-approved. Try something upbeat (even if it's a new take on Nirvana) and they'll probably go for it. Anything on mainstream radio would probably be okayed- Sheryl Crow's First Cut is the Deepest is easy to play and sing. Go for old and cool- "Wild Thing"!
