The memory of various things in stored is particular brain cells called neurons,by making connections called synapses with other neurons
During the early years of life, when the brain cells are dividing, these synapses are lost and so the memory stored by them is also lost.
After 1-2 years, those neurons stop dividing and so the thanforth formed synapses are not destroyed.Hence we can remember the later years!

I actually do remember one thing. It's very vague, but I remember my mom was sitting in a rocking chair and was rocking me to sleep and I had a pink bottle with a thing in the middle of it where you put you hand through it. I asked her about it and she said she would rock me to sleep and she remembers that very bottle. She said couldn't have even been a year old yet. I don't know how that is even possible for me to remember, but I do.
