its a grey box that says photogallery, and it starts to install/download or something, and i press cancel, and then it just like stays there, and i have to control-alt-delete it to get rid of the box.
i went to programs, to remove it, and there is nothing to remove. i ran a virus scan and nothing changes.....
what is this, what can be done?

Two possible ways .
1.Go to -c:\documentsandsettings\
allusers\startmenu\
programs\startup\
-else-
2.If you know the name of the program then
Search for the name , find the folder , and delete it OR
-else-
I have no idea !?!?

Run a search from the start button using "photogallery" and delete all files with that name.

I am not sure what it is but try a online virus scan and a couple of spyware/adaware programs.
Update and run your Anti-Virus program. Don't have one? You can run a free online scan from Trendmicro. When I have tested it it takes some time to run it but it may be time well spent if it can fix any problems.
Download and run http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/ . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.
Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php

I just answered another question on this. This seems to probably be a new/old virus that I've never heard of before. Check your PC for viruses.
