The Miss America pageant started in 1921 by Atlantic City to try to extend the tourist season beyond the Labor Day weekend and is now the longest running pageant. It is also the largest provider of scholarship funds for women in the world. It is judged on academics, physical fitness, talent and community service. The only prizes that Miss America wins is scholarship money for school. Although she does have all of her traveling expenses paid for.

The Miss USA & Miss Universe pageants were started in 1952 as a promotional tool for Catilina Swimsuits. The Miss USA pageant is mostly based on looks, modeling, and physical fitness. The prizes you win in the Miss USA pageant consist of jewelry, cash, cars, clothes, make-up, apartment in NYC...stuff like that. Miss USA goes on to compete in the Miss Universe pageant.
