Should I give up on trying to make new friends in high school at this point? I'm a senior and will be out in 5 months. It's hard for me because of my depression, social anxiety disorder, avoidant personality disorder, and just hating myself in general. Sometimes I really want to be friends with them, other times I just get so frustrated with myself I don't even try and just keep to myself. They like me enough as an acquaintance I guess, I'm nice to them, and I think I'm going to get them all little christmas and birthday presents. It's like I guess I know they like me enough but I can't convince myself of that or go talk to them, and I worry that that has hurt my chances because they think I'm not interested but I'm just shy. I had facebook (myspace) for a while to keep in touch and talk to them a little more but I couldn't take the stress and got rid of it and now I've lost that connection and possibly upset them. But I just cant approach people

I was so shy in school. My face would turn red whenever I tried to talk to someone. But after awhile you start to care less and less. I now can go up to anyone and talk with them.
Friends in school yeah non of them talk to me any more in fact I asked them if they ever talk to there old friend and they say no so don't worry about "school friends".

I know exactly what your going through!!! same went with me. ok 5 months left. I'd keep as much as I can connections with them. you may not be on it alot cuz of lots of senior things you have to do, but they'll understand. look for a life long friend. I can be a friend to ya, I know what kinda of anxiety disorder your going through, I was going through that all my life. I know what it's like to go through crap like that. you gotta get back in touch with them, something that you can keep on the side, it dosn't have to be like manitory to be on it every day or something like that, it could be something that you can get on ever once in a while like every week not even that. It'll keep you in touch with them, and it'll give you a reason not to hate the high school you go to, it'll give you another reason to not be affraid to run into them in a grociery store, or anything to do with the possible area they can possibly run into some day. soo keep in touch with them. In the mean time, you can keep in touch with one or a couple of people you can talk about this stuff to, like me. I'll be willing to IM you now and then when your stressed out, you can tell your problems to me, I can't promise you that I can solve them all but I can promise you that I will try to make life alot more understandable for you.

depression, social anxiety disorder, avoidant personality disorder, seem like they would definatly play a key role in your friend problem so if i were you i would go and google these disorders or go to websites about them and they should have tips for you and from people going through the same things. i personally do not because i have never been through this.

I used to have all the same problems. Give up for now. Once I got out of high school everything changed. Things will get better.

If your out in 5 months, don't give up now. you can use this remaining time to "practice" making freinds and meeting people, this way when you get out of HS you will be better prepared to deal with people.
Just remember that the people you see around are no better than you, you should not feel intimidated.

Most teenagers think in their senior years... that life will eventually die down... and everything is doomed forever!... your friendship... your love...etc. But... none of that is true. It's normal to have those feelings because I felt the same way... but the truth is.... in my opinion... that life after high school changes so much more. You have the freedom to choose what you want to do and who you want to be with.

So stop dwelling... and START living!

You'll find new friends at college or at work once you are through with high school. I wouldn't give up for now, but don't obsess on it.
If you don't meet new friends in any clubs or sports, don't worry about it. Please know that much better times are ahead of you!

God bless!

I have a sign that a friend bought me when I was feeling very low and hating myself,

"Never, Never, Never Quit" - Winston Churchill

I refer to that any time I feel like giving up and it renews my strength to continue on the course I have set for myself
