Actually I just read something about this recently. Apparently this is the main problem people get with their PS2s, and it can be fixed often times. Here's a link to instructions for fixing it:

Get a CD Player cleaner CD and also wipe clean your Games with a soft cotton shirt!

Bad lens clean it and it still won't work new part from sonly about 67$ when I bought one a year ago to fix mine.

All you have to do is write a letter to Santa Claus. He will be over first thing in the morning to fix it

call sony and have them fix it, aslong as you havent modded your system they will do it, there nothin you yourself can do really
