I think the main obstacle would be that no television station (tv is today's equivalent of radio) would be willing to attempt it. But if they were and they put on a live broacast about an alien invasion with convincing news anchors I can imagine some people believing in it. Another problem I think is that everyone knows all the national news broadcasters by name and by face, so it would immediately be suspicious if an actor came on and pretended to be on CNN or something.
There are still plenty of gullible, credulous people who think crystals heal them or they were abducted by aliens, so I see no barrier on that front.

It JUST happened... and no I am not kidding.
In Denmark a broadcast of the Danish kingdom being fractured with video shots of the Royal Family fleeing to England in the Royal Jet.
The Broadcaster apologized and recanted immediately.... but the damage was done.
Dead serious.... just happened three days ago I believe.

It would be great, but it would take all major newstations working together to pull it off.
That would be awesome,
you are right we would probably sit there and order another pizza, and drink beer,
God knows 2/3's of the country couldnt get off the couch to run anyway.
and the other 1/3 would be suing the networks for emotional distress.

Just look at the idiots who went off the deep end over the Da Vinci Code as though it was something other than a work of fiction.

Wouldn't work in this day in age as we have all become media junkies and would realize that it was a hoax quickly.
If the real end came we'd allwatch it live on CNN.

Just imagine if some tv station started showing "footage" of another attack on a skyscraper.
It would take a lot to convince people it wasn't real.

As much as I would love to think we are too technologically knowledgeable to let that happen to us, all I have to do is look at the people who still fall for internet scams to know , yes you can still fool people who should know better.

If we are told that the Muslims have launched a massive attack, many of us would run out and start killing Muslims without a blink of an eye.
But please, don't include me in that group
