Coffee mugs. I already have about twenty coffee mugs, so I do not need any more, and my husband just got (from a Secret Santa at work) a set of huge 'Field and Stream' coffee mugs with ducks on them. Hideous.

I'm allergic to lanolin, which is found in a lot of skin products. So, I get a lot of lotions and stuff that I can't use as well. I always say "thank you" and send a card, but I let my friends pick out the stuff I can't use after the holidays are over. If you don't have friends who want the girly stuff, drop it off at a women's shelter of food shelf. Someone else would love to get nice/fancy soaps and lotions!
Next year, remind people that you have sensitive skin, and you can't use products with artificial chemicals and they will hopefully more responsive. You'll just have to do it every year. My husband remind his family members for me, but they still often forget, but I always find someone else who would use the products. (I hate letting things go to waste.)
To complain even more: I'm an artist and I make a lot of pottery, so I hate it when people get me ceramic bowls. Everyone that knows me fairly well knows that my home is full of art stuff that I have made, and I don't even have room for that stuff let alone mass-produced pottery! I really hate the thoughtless gifts from my in-laws.

I hear you. Loud and clear. The ones from clueless relatives just go in the trash -- with a smile that I've made the neighbourhood slightly less toxic. But sometimes it's really hard, when the warmth that accompanies truly special gifts -- the thank-you from a group I volunteer with, the leaving gift from the team I worked with -- is diluted by the need to keep reminding myself 'it's the thought that counts' while I try to keep it as far away from myself as I can get it.
And what's labled 'natural' usually isn't, still full of petroleum derivatives (-parabens etc) and toxic additives. It's dangerous stuff. Merry Christmas, have some carcinogens.

I always get bubble bath too which is REALLY funny cause I don't have a tub, just a stand-up shower!!
Also, my mother in law insists on buying me clothes as a gift and even though she knows I don't wear pastels (she knows because I've politely told her often), I always get something in either baby pink, buttercup yellow or loverly lavender. (Nothing wrong with those colors, I just don't like wearing them)

Socks from my grandma. God bless her, but damn .... socks? again? Not trying to be a jerk because she is a great woman, but a little variety is cool. It's not even like they are the "cool" socks if there are any, but I think she bought 'em by the bundle back in the 70's because they have the stripes and all ....

I always make up a list-even though I am 37 years old! Anyone who gets me a gift knows this, and I always seem to get just what I want. People give lotions and potions to people when they don't know what else to give.

Junk from Bath and Body Works.
V. impersonal and not well thought out. I don't even like the scent half the time!
