Sounds like ac wants to come on but nothing comes out just hot air

Check the belts, you have one that drives the compressor, unless you just have a single serpintine belt that drives everything. Check the charge, if you are low on freon you will have that sympton.

First, pop the hood, have someone turn the A/C on and off and watch to see if the clutch on the compressor is kicking in. If that's working, check the temperature of the air exiting the vents. Is it cooler or ambient air temperature?
Check the fuses under the dash. If it has climate control, check to ensure that the temperatures are turned down.
