I work really hard at buying gifts for my nieces, but their dad doesn't have them get me anything.

Maybe he is just clueless.... or very busy, or lazy, or again, clueless as to what to get. Lucky to get something, be happy and grateful.

Christmas is about giving and the joy you get from the act. You are not required to buy anything for anyone actually. I would expect you do enjoy buying gifts for your neice's therefore you do get something from it.

As fo them being made to buy something for you the father should not make them ,maybe he should suggest it but thy may not have the money (I don't know), your Uncle should give you something however mostly if you are giving his girls a gift and if you are an important person in their lives. But again that is his choice and maybe he does not have the money either and instead gives what he can to his children that should be his priority.

As to your parents they may be giving you a check as they really do not know what would make you happy, however it is hard to get excited when you know what you will get every year. Personally I do think they should make a concerted effort to go out and find something they feel would make you happy, wrap it and put it under the tree. Then you will see it and get excited, kind of the fun part in my opinion.

But really if you are not finding joy in Christmas then consider find someone who you can help, maybe a kid you know is the only child in his neighborhood with no bike or a family who will have no special dinner this year and see if you can get some friend to help you buy them the needed items for dinner. Play secret Santa it can make your holiday spectacular.

Peace and Happy Holidays my dear...Santa

I am confused. What does receiving a check from your folks have to do with buying gifts for nieces?

I wish I could get a check for Christmas. Doesn't sound so bad to me.
