I would be careful before buying BRATZ dolls. Many parents find them inappropriate, and you woldn't want their parents to be upset.

MP3 players are very popular, but expensive and easy to break. Maybe a less expensive MP3 player? There are less expensive players out there (go to Best Buy or Circuit City) that make good "starter" players.

If they have video game systems, ask their parents if there are any games they'd like.

Girls that age love to shop. Money for TARGET, where the options are boundless, is good.

Clothes and jewelry are fun. Hooded sweatshirts and sweaters, shirts with fun sayings on them, little silver pendants (TJ MAXX is great for those, as is TARGET or pretty much any department store) on sillver chains, and silver earrings are nice and not too expensive.

Girls (and pretty much everyone else) go nuts for Build a Bear workshop bears. If there's one in your area, go and build a bear for each girl. (Go early; that place is a mob scene.) Give them gift cards for extra accessories, or, if you feel they want to build their bear themselves, give them just a gift car.

The new Disney CDs--Hannah Montana soundtrack, Cheetah Girls 2 soundtrack--are supposed to be very popular.

High School Musical was huge this year. Chances are they already have the DVD, but there's also a board game and calendar.

These IFLOPS are cute--you can get them at Bed Bath and Beyond or Linens and Things. They are stuffed animals that plug into any cd player or MP3 player and act as speakers. . . really cute for a girl's room. http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=1&SKU=109389
They also sell plain pillows that act as speakers. (Make sure the girls have cd players, preferably portable ones. If they don't, that would also be a good gift!)

Lip Smackers lip gloss comes in flavors like Fanta and Cotton Candy--really cute as a stocking stuffer.

A beaded jewelry kit would be cute, probably more for the 10-year-old.

I think bracelets or earrings (if they have earholes). I'm sure they'll like anything that you give them, but especially jewelry/accessoriese. Go to Claire's and they have a lot of cute hairties, bracelets, and even pencils. They also have cuddly girly pillows and just practically everything that girls love! (No matter what age because they also have nice keychains). If this idea doesn't work out for you, you can also buy a nice cute unexpensive pencil/eraser ($0.25+). Or if this doesn't work out either, buy each of them a giftcard to a store they like worth $10 - $20. I hope this helps because I have done this before, too and they love it!

My 11 year old nieces want games for their Nintendo DS - in particular Sims and any animal games. The one is into basketball, so any WNBA stuff flies with her. The fashion conscious one wants clothes/cards from Abercrombie, Hollister, aeropostale and American Eagle. The other one actually wants a sewing machine.

I think Make up and purses are good for girls of any age. For the 13 year old I would think about taking her to have her makeup done and teaching her how to use the make up you buy her.

Gift Certificates to a girly store, and then take them to spend it. Or the popular toy of the moment for girls appears to be Bratz everything.

Besides shoes, clothing, we still loved Barbie dolls at that age. And music.
