umm..this question is not really stupid. I don't get why people are reacting the way they are. While it is true that a majority of black people can trace their ancestry to Africa, there are a lot of black indigenous people in southeast Asian and in the Pacific that cannot conclusively trace their origins to Africa.
Africa being the "cradle of civilization" is just one theory. I think blacks that claim this as fact either should do more in depth research or make sure they're not being ethnocentric.

According to The Learning Channel ALL races of people are originally from Africa. Humankind originated from Africa.

Everyone on the planet is from africa. The original man came from africa, but if you'll talking about the black people today - yes we're all from Africa. What will really blow your mind is that not all african americans are decendents of slaves.

Well sort ya...some believe that all human life originated from that area. Other than that not necessarily. Many of my friends with dark skin are from the Islands, Australia etc.... so the term African American does not apply to them and the make sure to say so.

Actually, go back about 1,000,000 years and ALL people are from Africa. It was only after they spread out and started wandering all over the real estate that racial differences due to genetic drift and biological survival needs began to surface.

if you go far back enough yes my ancestors where from Africa, but I was still born and raised in the MI.
of course if you go even further back everyone's ancestors are from Africa

No, our ancestors are not just African they are also indigenous Americans and Europeans. We are basically like Hispanic people.
