He loves Blues Clues, Dora, and Baby Einstein, but I recently read that the AAP recommends that infants under 2 years of age never watch tv. He sleeps, plays with toys, reads books, eats, and excercises for several hours of the day, but what am I supposed to do the rest of the time if he can't watch any movies? Oh, and maybe the AAP has forgotten that there are things I need to get done during the day too! I need suggestions!

My daughter watched TV from when she was a little baby. I really don't see anything wrong with it as long as it's not all they do all day long. I'm sorry I don't really know what else you could do during the day. Sound's like it's already pretty full.

TV is fine...in moderation. A child that young, in my opionion, should not watch more than 15-30 min a day. Plus mine were never interested. However, that are great things you can do. Mine loved for me to take off their clothes, put them in their highchair and then I would put warm water on the tray. They would splash forever. Also it is not a good idea for you to occupy your child all day. A child needs to learn how to occupy himself some. Do not get me wrong, quality time is VERY important. I made the mistake of playing with my first son all the time. I mean all day. My house suffered, my husband suffered and now he is five and he can not play on his own. If he is not playing with me he is not happy. I didn't do that with my two year old and he will sit in the floor and play all by himself quite often. Put him in playpen, or a walker. Johnny jump ups are great too, until they can walk. I believe it is never to early for playdough. You need to supervise him constantly with it since he is so young. Show him how to hold it and squish it. Give him the container and half the playdough. He will put it in and take it out over and over. Mine also loved to just pick it into tiny pieces. We also did non-toxic finger paints. I would put a blob of paint on a piece of paper and they would smear it all over the place. It makes a mess but kids love a mess. Good Luck and have fun with your baby.

Who is the child's parent-- you or the AAP???

He can watch television. What I don't understand about the AAP is how can the adults & older children watch t.v. without the baby looking @ it. Are you supposed to blindfold the baby?? Babies will watch t.v. and they enjoy it:)

Put away all his toys except 5.
The next day give him a different 5.

Seriously they get overwhelmed and bored with the same masses of toys each day. (Obviously don't take away anything he can't live without)

You would be amazed at how kids LOVE playing with new things. It can be literally ANYTHING that they cant choke on or hurt themselves with. Tupperware, plastic utensils, newspaper (If you are watching closely) old telphones, empty boxes, you get the idea.

Umm...yeah...Don't listen to what they say. I have a 15 month old and Noggins & PBS are life savers. Just make sure when he's older to monitor him.

its true just don't put him infront of the t.v. for sure...babies don't even know that t.v is fun the later you introduce them to it the better...put music on for him as he plays or one of those one of those lights that makes things move around in the ceiling...
