Easy, just tell them the meaning of Christmas and be honest and let the kids know that you don't have any money...You can also take your kids to the Salvation Army's giveaway or any organization that hands out toys and bring them home and put them under the tree and let the kids open the gifts....
As long as you love each other, things will be fine...Also, the kids will get gifts from family and friends and ask some of the family and friends to help you out and buy a toy a piece extra and say it is from you...
May GOD bless you and your family and know that prayer changes things....

Teach your children what Christmas is all about. There should be some sort of sources in your area that provide assistance in a situation like that. Call and around and look into it. For instance, salvation army or a goodwill. Ask your children teachers about assitance in your area. Good luck!!! Gift giving is special but so is family!!!

It's unfortunate that you didn't seek out an agency that helps in situations like this. There is "Toys for Tots" that is supported by the Marines and private contributions. The Salvation Army can assist with toys for all three of your children. Get on a phone and start looking into these! Don't let your pride get in the way of your children's happiness this Christmas!

1 cup of all-purpose flour
1 cup of water
1/2 cup of salt
2 Tablespoons of cream of tartar
2 Tablespoons of Vegetable oil
A few drops of food coloring or a pack of unsweetened kool-aid
Mix all together and cook for a minute or two until it is the right consistency.
Now you have Play-Doh!
Gather some cookie cutters and butter knives and use drinking cups as rolling pins. Let them watch you make it. Play with them with it. As you are playing, explain to them that being a family that sticks together through the hard times is more important than getting presents.

If they are young... like 3 - 7 they'd understand if you explained to them and got them a couple of small things each... but if they are older and used to getting a lot of money spent on them at Christmas time... I think credit is the best option.

If you have $20 dollars at least, you can probably buy them a movie, lets say "Over the Hedge" (seen it funny). If not spend time w/them play Candyland, Monopoly, video games, or you can go for kids games like touch, or basketball wont be bad. It doesn't take much, to put a smile on child, unless they are spoiled rotten.

You don't! Christmas isn't about what you can provide it's about giving. Do you read between the lines? Give of yourself not of your pocketbook. I hope you have a Merry Christmas!
