by Paul MacCartney? I have my obvious choice, but I want to know what you think. Try to expound on your answer if you can as to why you prefer one over the other. By the way, I don't always select the one that agrees with me as the best answer, but the one who gives good reasons for their answer and states it in proper English.

As is usually the case, John's song has more meaning and depth to it whereas Paul's is just light and fluffy like his silly love songs. Musically, Paul's is more intricate which is also typical.
Personally I prefer the depth of John's although as a musician i have to appreciate Paul's. John's just speaks more to where i am in my life, praying for wars to end and soldiers to come home.

To be honest with you i cannot remember how the John Lennon song goes but I love the Paul MacCartney song. The way the song kinda bounces is nice. I like how it is sorta Psychedelic also.

Personally, I like the message behind 'Merry Christmas (War Is Over)', but as a song 'A Wonderful Christmas Time' is cheerier and bouncier, which let's face it, is what people want at Christmas!

I prefer Paul McCartney's track simply because I'm a sucker for a jolly pop song, and it always makes me smile when I hear it - as long as it Christmas of course!

Oh my God - that's like picking the lesser of two evils, no offense.

I love both the artists, and the songs are actually pretty good, but they're SO overplayed on our radio stations here, so you can get tired of them REALLY quickly.

I'd prefer Lennon's Merry Christmas (War is Over) just because of the message (less commercialization of Christmas), and it talks about "what have you done" , reflecting on the past year, how you've lived your life, being thankful for what you have, etc. I guess I just like the overall theme of it.

The synthesizer of Wonderful Christmastime kind of grates on my nerves after awhile...
