Because in a market-based economy..without tax subsidies.. NPR wouldn't last longer than Air America did.

Less than 5% of funding for NPR comes from tax dollars. the rest is listener supported. If you want to give them money, and have a say in their programming, then by all means...and if Murdoch wants to run a not for profit news station on a menial salary..........ahhhhhhh nevermind, I can't even finish that I'm laughing so hard...!

NPR gets very little of it's funding from taxes.

But you are right. Why do they need to get any taxes at all? They've already sold out and have short commercials, even though they say they are commercial free. And they already get the lion's share of their funding through begging.

They don't need the tax money any longer.

Apparently you define "Ultra Liberal" as any station that doesn't sing Bush's praises 24 hours a day.

This bugs me, too. Regardless of NPR's viewpoint.

The purpose of government is to do things that the private sector cannot do - like the military, like criminal justice, like the freeway system, etc.
