I am going to be in London from 12/17 - 1/3, staying in Kensington. We are in our late 20's, any suggestions mature but not old foggie contemporary chicks of what we must see and do while we are there. Does anyone know of any poetry (spoken word) spots and clubs??? Also suggestions for New Year's Eve!

When we were there, there was plently to do... Umm, for starters, you should buy a multi day subway card(Underground as they call it I think.) Once you get that, 100s of possibilities open up. The tower bridge and the Towers of London are pretty impressive (you know, the jail place.) The lines to get tickets into the tower are long, but worthwhile I think. There are plenty of shops around there too, including ice cream! yay! lol, then, another good thing to do is put about half a day or more aside to go on a tour bus. They have some cool doubledeckers. Your hotel (if your staying at a hotel) will be able to help you find attractions, suggest good places to eat in the local area, and in some cases, arrange transportation to said places. The Underground is key in London, so don't forget to keep your tickets charged. Also remember that EVERYTHING is TWICE as expensive in England as it is in the USA. I'm betting that on New Year's Eve either every restaurant will be closed, or, Everything will be PACKED. So, if you have any eating preference, then call the restaurant and ask if they will be open, and if so, if you can get a reservation. And I'm fairly sure that they might do fire works at one of the major places like the Tower of London. Again, ask your hotel and they can tell you just about anything. I hope this helped and good luck with the trip... Haven't you been there for three days?

Couple of links below should help you find some interesting stuff. Couldn't see any poetry events on while you were over, but I would suggest having a look at the comedy section on Time Out as London has some great live comedy venues - IF you can get tickets, the Comedy Store Players (Paul Merton et al) is an absolute must!

Have a great stay in our fair (but currently foggy!!) city!

Matt covers it. I know they have walking tours of-say-Shakespearean London. Some shops and the like have been built over cellars from that era. I would contact the London tourist bureau, they must have one on line, and find out some interesting and unusual places to see. Also Rick Steves has a site and he includes unusual things like attending the closing for the night of the Tower. You need special tickets but it's interesting. Have fun!

Tower of London is a great place to visit, the Crown Jewels are there, it's also the place where Anne Bolyn was executed. Make sure to do some shopping, and don't forget to check out some pubs and get some fish and chips.. have fun.
