I am invited to a group interview. I am told that they will take about 70% to 80% of those who attended? Any practical tips? Is it a strange arrangement in UK? Any areas that I need to pay attention to?

Yes - it is unusual, sounds american to me!!

My thoughts though to steer yourself into the top 80% (assuming you want the work they are offering) is as follows.

1. Sit as near to the front as you can - lean forward eagerly don't cross your arms and look as open and relaxed as you can.

2. Nod your head in agreement with whatever it is that the interviewers have to say to you so that you appear participative and positive about their message.

3. Have a couple of really good winning questions ready that will appeal to them such as - "If I was lucky enough to be in the top 80% would I be able to start straight away?"

. "I would love to join the company - sounds like a great opportunity - what are the prospects for candidates who deliver great results to progress quickly?

" Sounds great - are there more opportunities for the really ambitious amongst us"?

As you can see they all strike you as very positive and 'winning type messages' it would be hard to exclude such a positive and forward looking candidate.

Good luck hope you win (which you will easily with this method)!!

during group interviews, a great deal of what the interviewer(s) are looking at is how you interact with the group. if you are interviewing for a leadership role, and they state that they want a group solution to something, they're really testing you to see what role you fall into in the group naturally. the most important thing is to relax, don't offer up too much personal information, and show them that you are the person they want to hire, (not just tell them.) it helps if you believe you really are the best person for the job too.

Try not to feel intimidated that there are so many people, usually one will ask you a question at a time, and in that case, directly respond to that person giving them eyecontact and keep calm. goodluck
