some of the most excruciating pain I have ever felt was in dreams!

Yes, but from the ones I remember, the pain has most often been related to actual pain I was experiencing apart from my dream.
For example, I had a dream where I was in a dark parking lot near a University where I had hockey practices, and there was a rabid raccoon (yes, yes, strange dream) circling me. It kept coming at me, and I kept jumping out of the way, but then it got right to me - so I stuck out my hand to shield it off, and it bit my hand - hurting me intensely. I woke up, and my hand was in an extremely awkard position under me, completely asleep, and hurting terribly.
Another time, I had a dream where it was dark, and I was running around my front yard. Suddenly, there was a lightning strike and an immediate "Wham!" of thunder, and I felt it right through my head. I immediately woke up, and my head was throbbing: I had slammed it against the wall.

Not while the dream is going on, but I will wake up in pain and sore if I had a fight or something in a dream.

Yes I have but I later learned that those dreams where actually almost like out of body experiences.

DEFINETLY..ESPICALLY WHEN U R HURT BY SOMETHING U SEE OR WHEN UR CRYING SO MUCH BEUCZ U SEE A LOVE ONE DIEING OR SOEMTHING LIKE THAT.THATS TRUE IT HAPPENS TO ME A LOT.BUT THEY SAY IF UR CRYING IN UR DREAM IT MEANS THAT NOTHING BAD WILL HAPPEN AND ULL ACTUALLY BE REALL HAPPY AND HAVE A GOOD DAY.AND I FIND THAT TO BE TRUE.ECEPT WHEN I SOMETIMES WAKE UP FROM THESE DREAMS, IM REALLY DEPRESSED,U KNO??
