i have been her best friend for about three years now and i am scared that if i tell her she's depressing to be around, she'll hate me and take all of my other friends with her. one of my other friends is much happier and she is so uplifting, so naturally i've been spending most of my time with her, now my other friend is getting jelous and telling people i'm a ***** behind my back...i do like her a lot more when she's happy though.........DELEMA!!

If you were truly her friend, you wouldn't feel this way. If you have tried to be supportive of her, and she isn't getting any better, you should suggest she talks to a counselor. This isn't the time for you to hurt her feelings. Try to plan activities that you can do with her that are uplifting and fun. No one can be depressed while ice skating. Think of things to help cheer her up. Going out and getting wasted won't help either. Be supportive of your friend. This is a difficult time, don't turn your back on her.

well, I would ask her how her life is going instead. She is probably depressed and maybe you haven't been a very good listener? Maybe you could help her out instead of making her feel worse. If you don't like her anymore, then leave her alone, but don't tell her she's depressing to talk to.

When you figure it out, I hope I read the answer so I will know what to say to my mother. She is the same way. I have been screening my calls to avoid talking to her. She just gets to be such a downer every year at Christmas. I can't stand it, and I'm tired of feeling responsible for trying to cheer her up. So, I sympathize with how you feel.

I have a friend and a lot of times I ask her are you depressed and she spills it out. I try to invite her to things where we don't have to talk a lot, like movies and such because I care about her but sometimes she can depress me! It is hard but Ihave never had the nerve to say YOU DEPRESS ME>......

If she is your best friend then be patient and hang in there. She may really need someone that is for her while she is going through this. You may want to suggest counseling to her. Usually if someone is depressing you it is due to them being depressed and negative. Good luck!

Just be honest and tell her that she's bringing you down. Tell her that life can't be as bad as she makes it seem. Get her to talk about some of the good things in her life. Good Luck!

See if you can get her to email you as opposed to calling. I had to do that with one of my girlfriends - she was a real bore on the phone and wanted to talk 2 hrs every night. I finally convinvced her to email me and IT IS SO MUCH EASIER :)
