If anything, I would say you are too young. Is a trend to see the average age of college students gradually rising. It is perfectly normal for young people to take a few years after high school in order to travel and discover themselves. Many people who go to college directly after high school end up disappointed with their career paths and drop out. It is far better to know what you want to do with your education rather than spend a fortune on an education you aren't happy with and won't use. I started college at 29. At your age you will fit in just fine. Besides, you should go to school for the education, regardless if you fit in or not. Go when you are ready, not when people say you "should."

Twenty-three is not too old to start college and I doubt that you'll feel out of place.

I was 28 years old when I started college. Now at the age of 30, I am happy that I made the decision to go to college and I am almost finished with my B.S. in psychology and certificate in gerontology.
Personally, I feel that being a "non-traditional" student (generally a term applied to students 25 y/o and up) has helped me in a variety of ways. I am more focused on my studies and I am not distracted by college parties. The funding for my education comes half from grants and half from college loans, which prompts me to feel as though I should do my best to make this opportunity worthwhile. I work hard at getting the most out of my college classes and I have maintained a pretty decent grade point average. I have been on the dean's list multiple times.

In my various classes, I tend to see students of all ages. The "traditional" college students are there. I also see students in my age category as well as students 40 and over. There are even some older adults at my college as well.

I don't think that you should see age as a barrier to your college education. There are people of all ages in college. Twenty-three is not all that old. Get in there, get the education you want and make the most of it. You can do it at any age, but there is no reason to delay if you are ready now.

I'm 23 and about to start also. Id say your not too old, I'm a little worried about picking up math again but its all good. Yeah, I couldnt afford it till now either , I made some early mistakes...

It'll be cool though, I'm ready to actually do it now whereas straight out of High School I could never have committed like I can now. I think I'm better off really...

Good Luck!

Absolutely not! It is never too late to start college. Education is a very important fundamental in life and you stand better chances at getting far ahead in life if you have an education. Don't by any means allow any insecurities of feeling out of place get in the way of your future. You deserve the best future for yourself and nothing should ever stand in your way, so I say you go for it!

Awhile ago I once saw a 70 some year old woman on a news broadcast because she graduated at 70 something and she got her masters degree. She got standing ovations and everything because even at her age, she still succeeded with her goal to graduate. Life is too short, so I say you do what's best for your future since it is never too late.

No, you are not too old to start college. In fact, by earning a college degree in your twenties you can improve your earning potential tremendously early in your career.

Be sure to select a school and classes where you feel welcome and comfortable. Many teachers appreciate having students in their early twenties because they are more mature and focused. Each school and program has a personality/demographic and you should find one to suit you. You can a feel for the place by checking out the college counselors, sitting in a few classes, and talking to the instructors.

A college education will benefit you and you are the one paying for it so be a selective consumer & don't let others deter you.

Congratulations & good luck.

There a lot of people who are older. I'm 28 and have been going for 2 years now. In one class last semester I had a 70 year old. 23 is fine. Better to get it than to never try because of age.

No. You're are not too old. More and more college is seen as a place to advance one's knowledge and therefore age is no barrier to entrance. If you feel that you enjoy the work you do, you might consider doing some kind of online correspondence for a degree. This can be just as rewarding.

No, you are not too old and you won't feel out of place. There will be lots of older students there. Most colleges now have a special organization for mature students, and often special study rooms and coffee rooms as well where they can get together. You are never too old for college. Enjoy the experience. You will probably appreciate it much more now than you would have at 18.

You're never too old to get a better education and improve your life! Sometimes starting at an older age helps you be motivated to graduate ASAP and take school seriously. You'll make friends whether you're 23, 32, or even 52... you'll do great! Good luck! :)

no ways, in theory your never too old to do anything, I see people in their 40's in some on my classes, not many but some, as long as your under 30 the age gap wont affect your social life in college at all. Your 23 ? Thats nothing go for it, youl fit right in.
