I just like it because when you have kids they actually GROW UP, so you can watch your family expand for generations. If you think about it like that, there kind of ARE story lines...and as for "missions," your Sims have aspirations, or things they want, that you need to fulfill or they might die.

The Sims 2 is a life simulator. You can create families and build their homes, give them jobs, and make their like fantastic or make it horrible, it's up to you. They have life and career aspirations and upon reaching them, your Sims can then get special bonus items that will benefit them in the game. Your Sims can have children and then you can continue on playing their lives and create generations upon generations of little Sims. You can also take snapshots within the game and create storylines if you'd like. They can then be uploaded and shared on the Sims website. Basically, the Sims is what you make of it. When I play, I just let my imagination fill in as the story lines. For me, it's way more entertaining than watching tv, because I control the characters and what they do!
