Real in Real Madrid means "Royal." Given the crown in their logo - I would say the same applies to the MLS team as well...

real means royal in spanish so it makes sense for it to be Real Madrid, but I think Real Salt Lake is just a joke.

Real as in "Real Madrid" means Royal
Real as in "Real Salt Lake" is just used because it's what european teams do. (just like DC United - Manchester United)

saltlake city, like all americans think that if they take the name or player of anything that it officvally becomes sunonomise with them and that they are the best "real" or wot ever, this is because there are all arrogant pigheaded ******** that think ther the best, well if they play real football them let have them over here for a game

it can be from royalty, but also i read it was used to make a difference from athletico de madrid
