I've heard that before, but I've never seen definitive proof. I checked their drafts from 1995 to 2001 (when Nelly would have been 17 to 23 years old), and I don't see his name anywhere.

Either I'm missing it - which is possible - or it's just something someone said, and now it's stuck. I do know that he was a baseball player when he was younger, so it's not impossible that it could have happened, or that he could have attended some kind of open camp.
