it depends on what your boss likes. If he/she likes to entertain or appreciates food gifts, get a nice bottle of wine. Whatever you do, don't get a gift card. Chances are, you know something about who they are and what they like, so use that to your advantage.

A gag gift! Your boss will appreciate this not being taken so seriously. I know I would! Just because you have to give a gift to someone a higher ranking than you doesn't mean they are different or any better. If he has a dog, get him/her a big box of dog treats. Get those sodas off the internet that are (supposed) to taste like Christmas dishes, but are really nasty. It's fun to do something out of the ordinary!

You don't specify if your boss is a male or female - if a female, I would suggest something like a gift certificate for a manicure and/or pedicure. For a male, depending on his personality, maybe a gift card for a home improvement store, a bottle of booze, or a bunch of scratch off lottery tickets.

Good luck!

How about a nice box of chocolates from Godiva, or Sees candy? everyone likes those types of gifts. And i actually think that gift cards can be a great idea, but be thoughtful, dont make it a general card, if he has ever mentioned he likes a certain restaurant or store, get him a gift card from there.

Ok, usually dirty santa is played with some nice stuff that you already have in the house and that you don't use.

Now for your boss, anything wine, chocolates, something for his car or office would do it :)
