I always hear about rock bands touring Japan, or Europe, but never rappers.

Well, Rap or better yet Hip Hop is big outside the US...especially the UK and Japan...where that whole Harajuku style is anime mixed with the 80's B-girl a'la Salt &Pepa...Nigo, a deejay and producer from Japan is responsible for A Bathing Ape, the clothing line that took Japan, the UK, and USA by storm...he based it on classic hoodies, t-shirts, and Air Force 1's favored by the youth of New York...especially Harlem circa 1988-1996...Nigo rocks a platinum grille with diamonds...huge chains..he's partners and good friends with Pharrell Williams, he helped him with his Ice Cream and Billionaire Boys Club fashion lines....he is also the producer , manager, and DJ for the Teriyaki Boyz..who had a couple of songs on the Tokyo Drift soundtrack...also, Gwen Stefani's Harajuku Girls represent the trendy fashion district of Japan where she likes to shop when she visits Japan...as you can see they are into Hip Hop. Run DMC, the Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, The Fresh Prince, and Public Enemy were the first to visit Japan during the Raising Hell Tour during the 80's...masterminded by Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin of Def JamRecords / Rush Entertainment fame...very few rappers have eclipsed that tour...only Jay-Z and Eminem have toured as extensively ...50 Cent if he can stay out of trouble and clear a passport screening
Very few rap acts go overseas because U-S tours are less costly and you can use tour buses plus it's hard for them to get insurance. they want to tote guns and bring weed...which is inappropiate for overseas travel but the exception to the rule are artists like the Roots, the Hieroglyphics, KRS-One, Masta Ace, MF Doom, Madlib, and others who have a strong underground cult following... they mainly finance the tours themselves or particpate in festivals or showcases put together by people like Heiniken, Sprite, Marc Ecko, Stones Throw, Spitkicker, and Lyricist Lounge...
The Internet has benefited Hip Hop..people from all over the world can download and share files on such sites as Limewire...some artists embrace it...while others hate it.
London, France, Puerto Rico, India, Germany, Brazil, and many others have their own homegrown Hip Hop sounds such as Reggaeton and gryme....Africa is also into the artform...there is alot of concious lyrics and positive messages as well as sex and gun talk..so yes, Hip Hop is a international phenomena...the voice of the oppressed and downtrodden everywhere...people pour their fusturation and anger into the mic.

yes rap is HUGE outside of the US. Rappers do tour different countries, especially in Asia.

one of the oddest examples of this that i have seen is in UAE, in the city of Dubai. yes, it is westernized, but i have seen locals listening to Tupac records just as if it was Los Angeles. also, in a city in Jordan, i remember seeing some Tupac lyrics graffitied on a wall.

music transcends culture, and you will be able to buy your favorite album anywhere in the world. i was visiting a small village in Southern India, and walked into a record shop and purchased the Murphy Lee album; this was surprising because he is not a very big mainstream artist.

Yeah rappers go to the UK and South Africa and stuff. At least that's where I've heard Jay-Z has toured.
