On Monday morning (this week) I bought an Acer laptop from Comet............at 3pm Monday I exchanged it for a HP dv6116eu.
Despite the Acer having a better processor it felt really sluggish, also the keyboard bent when typing and the screen was very loose.......My new HP laptop is far better....nuff said!

Acer computers are a mixed bag. I wish mine was more robust, but when stuff went bad while under warranty, Acer fixed it up quite nicely.
Their tech support was a real bonus. Almost no wait time, very helpful support, they were very flexible too, (and they were native English speakers). When the hard drive broke down, I asked to have the HDD sent over to me, so I could install it myself. They were OK with it, and my DIY job didn't void the warranty.
Next time, I'm just going to build up the laptop myself. Acer tech support is nice, but I do want a working and robust laptop...Perhaps I picked a bad model and you might have better luck.

All you need to do is look at cost, what you want it to do (and you say simple stuff...but we all expand our use) and the amount of memory. Once you have done this and you are comfortable with the acer then buy it. Also look at warrenty as well etc. I have a Toshiba I love, but my Sony and Dell are great too (I have several places I work). I'm sure you will be fine.

I bought one this past summer, aspire 5670, and so far so good. Acers seem to be less dumbed down than dells and i got a better deal (feature-wise) on an acer vs a toshiba.
The most important part is sales/service - make sure you can get it fixed easily if you break it!

We have 5 in the office for about 17 months. The only one that had a problem had it right out of the box. Their CD burners are terrible, though.

You messed it up great time. enable it air out in a bag of rice for each week then enable it air out and attempt besides it up no longer something then purchase a clean computing gadget. it may in all probability value to lots to repair it and dont purchase yet another acer.

I know people who swear by them, but I prefer a well-known brand - Sony, Compaq, Hewlett Packard or Packard Bell. You get more memory, greater reliability & the after-sales back-up should you need it.
