I do think you should get married before you go back in. What it will do is make sure that she receives all the benefits she is entitled to as a military spouse, and there are great support systems for the remaining spouse when the military spouses sent overseas in the service. She won't have access to that support and benefits if you are not yet married.

Thank you for your service, and thanks to her for supporting you. My mother-in-law was a Navy wife, and I know she loved my father-in-law a lot, but they led a hard life since he was away a lot (Korea and Vietnam).

Best of luck to you both!!

just because you're getting back in doesnt mean you should give up on you're personal life at home ... if you really love your girlfriend, which it seems you do since you're engaged to her, you should marry her if that's what you want to do. I mean, you dont have to marry her before you go, you can always STAY engaged and get married when you come back home ... there's always that opinion too, not just all or nothing. You shouldnt have to rush to get married. You had a life before you got into the military and you're goign to have one after it ... and plus its always nice to know that someones there waiting for you to come home right? well just think it through a little more and do what you think would be best for both of you ...

Get married right now. Married soldiers are taken care of better than single soldiers in the army.

Yes. First you would make more money oversees. You will get a seperation pay. She will also be eligible for your life insurance if something was to happen to you.

Yes, to protect her. You are well aware of the risks to yourself. Marriage will give her rights in the hopefully remote situation where you are disabled or killed.

Sorry Chuck, you know the saying, if the military wanted you to have a wife they would have issued you one!
