I seriously think that we need to focus on rebuilding the honor and sanctity of the Congress. To get off to a great start in 2007, Congress needs to focus on passing legislation that actually can do good for America. We need to raise minimum wage, reform social security, and strive for a more ethical approach in CPngress. They also need to show up for work and do something. I wish I could not go to work and still get paid for it.

Flat Tax Reform. Everyone taxed EQUALLY on all income over $12,000.00 earned in a year.
This is a more fair system and benefits the poverty stricken.
For example....
Someone makes $6 an hour, workd 40 hours a week, for 50 weeks a year. (A teenager working to go to community college.) This is $12,000.00, this person pays no taxes.
Someone makes $10 an hour as a clerk or whatever. 40 hours a week, 50 weeks a year. This is $20,000.00. $20,000.00 - $12,000.00 = $8,000.00 taxed at say 17% = $1,360.00 in taxes
Someone makes $100,000.00 a year. $100,000.00 - $12,000.00 = $88,000.00 taxed at 17% = $14,9600.00 in taxes.
The percentage would, of course, have to be researched, but this goes away from the current system that punnishes those who achieve more in life and put forth the extra effort. No loopholes, no crap. Just straight flat tax. This would also help by demanding less people to work for the IRS, reducing a HUGE government cost. Pretty easy to audit when a 6th grader can check the math.

I would like to see Congress aggressively pursue debt and tax elimination public policy as proposed by Eric Kirkland of Texas.
His alternate proposals detail exactly how to eliminate public debt, at all levels of government, and reduce, slowly at first, and then eliminate all forms of taxation at all levels of government while continuing to pay for government services.
These proposals are very detailed, with many options, and are somewhat complex but this is the gist of it. They involve many sound financial principles and although the idea isn't new the application of it sure is.

From what I understand, the Dems have too much on thier plate returning our nation to the way it was before the repubs stole the white house. Investigatins and bringing the white house criminals to court will just have to wait. I hope they don't wait too long.
I think the most painful issue is Iraq. The US military destroyed their government and infrastructure but there is no American leadership in place to institute workable plans to control the civil war in Iraq. There is no plan in place to get our young people the hell out of there. Health care, taxes, immigration, welfare and the fact that the unemployment rate is in actuality much higher than the statistics indicate will have to also be worked on soon.
