There's actually an old joke about this. A musician dies and goes to Heaven, where he checks in at the Pearly Gates. There, as he's chatting with St. Peter, he notices a magnificent figure -- huge, majestic, lit from within by a glorious luminescence. The figure is wearing a tuxedo and has long, white hair, which he throws back. Then, he picks up a conductor's baton and snaps it in two before waving his hands in the air at the incoming souls of the blessed.

"Who's that?" asks the musician, in awe.

"Oh, that's just God," says St. Peter. "He thinks he's Stokowski."
