There is no set weight to what a baby should weigh at any given month. As long as your doctor is not concerned, neither should you. Doctors graph your childs weight gain and length on a chart starting right from birth. As long as your child is not falling off their growth curve (in weight or length) and is thriving there are no issues. A doctor will tell you if there is an issue.

As far as calories, I do believe a baby should be consuming approx 24-32oz of breastmilk/formula in a 24 hour period.

From what I know offhand, doctors like to see a child double their birth weight by 6 months and triple it by 1 year.
So, depending on his birth weight, I'd say he's fine :)

My son is almost 4 months (in 10 days) and he weighs about 16 lbs, and is about 24.5 inches long. His height is normal, and his weight is in the 90 percentile, but still normal. You shouldn't worry about your baby's weight, all babies are different. As long as your doctor isn't concerned, you shouldn't be concerned, your doctor would tell you if anything was wrong. And as far as how many calories my son consumes everyday I think its about 600 if I figured it out right. He eats about 4 8-9 o.z bottles everyday.

i'm trying to remember what my son weighed at 3 months. it was probably close to that, maybe a little less. i think, if i remember correctly, (this wasn't that long ago for me but they grow and change so fast) he was eating 5-7 bottles a day. and those were about 4 or 5 ounces. it's something like 2 ounces per pound so between 28 and 32 ounces a day. he was sleeping through the night. i also didn't give him a bottle right before bed. i would time it so it was about an hour before he went to bed. if the doctor isn't concerned, then you shouldn't be. they chart that compared to height.

I don't know how many calories the baby should consume but @ 3 months my baby had about 25 oz of milk per day. He is now 8 1/2 months and weighs close to 20 lbs.

Every baby is different. You can ask your doctor for the percentiles to see how your baby compares w/ other babies. I'm sure your baby is fine:)

At 3 months old my son weighed almost 17 pounds. he is also 26 inches long. my dr is not concerned about him being too big at all. not sure about calorie intake but he is on formula only and has a 4-6 oz bottle about ever 2.5 to 3 hrs. If your dr isn't worried about his weight then I wouldn't be either.

It depends on how much your son weighed when you had him. My son was 9 lbs when I had him and he now weighs 12lbs. at 2 months. He eats about 5 to 6 ounces every 3 to 4 hours.

Growth is what's important, not weight or counting calories. If your pediatrician is satisfied with the growth of your son, you should relax. I know it's stressful and hard not to worry.

ps: infants tend to "chunk up" and then grow like crazy. I would bring my infant son in and he'd be 65% for height and 90% weight, and two weeks later even out at 80% for both.

How can you count the calories for a 3 month old? Surely he is just drinking formula at the most? If he was breastfeeding, which is the natural way, no one would know how much he was consuming.

If you don't trust you Dr then why are you taking your kid there? You should know by now the weight is different for EVERY baby and so is how much he eats! Do everybody a favor and realize you are a new nervous Mother and try to relax and quit worrying about nothing! Enjoy your healthy baby!
