I am looking to but a watch for my boyfriend who is a snowboarding enthusiast. Can anyone suggest a specific watch geared towards snowboarders? Are Suunto watches the best brand for snowbaorders? Also should I get a watch that indicates a compass, altitude, barometer, jump history or just a good athletic watch? My limit is around $200 and I want to get him something he will use and not just push aside as a novelty gift.

I use the Timex Ironman Speed & Distance, It gives you average/maximum/current speed, vertical drop, distance, GPS coordinates, heart rate, etc. It is about $200 and you can get a Data recorder that gives you all the info in 2 second intervals for the whole time it is engaged.

Nixon makes the Steeziest watches around. You can't go wrong with them. I bet he'd love the Ceramic Player, I know I would...but at thirteen hundred bucks it's a bit pricey (don't worry most of these watches are between $80 and $250). Check out their LTD sports watches designed by snowboarders like Jeremy Jones, JP Solberg, Gigi Ruff, JP Walker, Romain De Marchi and Todd Richards. They're all pretty cool and the fact that they are limited means not everyone on the hill will have one.

I own a bunch of Nixon watches, I like the GTO, The Black SS Rover, The Player and The Capital.

I made a mistake and went for one of the "snowboard watches".... it supposedly measured altitude, but only by barometric pressure, which isn't that accurate. It was cool and all, but it was so bulky and cumbersome that I ended up wearing it only twice. You might consider just a good athletic watch, something that isn't bulky, and let him worry about the rest.
