yes. he also didn't allow them to smile, or laugh, or speak to more than 5 different people in a day (kidding here people). cricket is only popular in former colonies of britain, because that is where it was developed. the french, russians, spanish, and italians (among many many others) don't play it either

The Germans have no sense of nuance and would be totally bewildered both by the rules and intuitive sense of what's cricket and what is not cricket.

Spheres of influence - colonial powers spread their games. Germany and Britian were one time rivals for world influence. Playing the same games would indicate britians game was better than a german one
