I came home yesterday and strategically placed on the corners of every step and outlining my upstairs landing (except not in front of the door threshold) were mothballs placed about 6 inches apart. No other condo entry had this done. Is this some kind of ritual, I live in a Latin community. What the heck?

I know that some people believe that mothballs keep some animals away like snakes & cats don't like the smell. So they stay away from areas with mothballs.

Oh I've seen this before.

Some dogs like to do their business (#1 or #2) in front of a door so if the owner was cool enough to go and clean it, he probably went the extra mile and placed some mothballs to get rid of the stink.

Another explanation is "white magic", latin people believe in those things and you shouldn't worry about it. It is as fake as Ashley simpson singing carrer!

LOL

could be trying to repel pests or are just bored and don't know what else to do with their time. I don't know of any rituals involving mothballs. Unless they are creating their own ritual. Another possibility is a person was having someone over who has sight imparement and are using the mothballs as a guide instead of bright colored tape?

Moth balls are used in gardens to keep cats away. I dug up my front garden and racked it down real nice...now it becomes a bathroom for the cats in my neighbourhood.

I wish people that get cats would keep the little rodents inside their homes and not let them wander around the neighbourhood making a mess of peoples gardens...

There are so many irresponsible cat owners out there...I wish that cat owners would step up to the plate and clean up after their animals.

Have you seen any snakes? Sometimes people put mothballs out to repel snakes. Other than that I have no idea.

someone must have noticed an ant problem...or some other pest.

Mothballs are used to keep away other pests besides moths.
