The most reliable used car is a used car that has been well maintained by it's former owner.

Any vehicle brand, will not be reliable if the previous owner has not taken good care of the vehicle to begin with. I knew someone who though purchasing a Toyota would save him the headaches of ever maintaining his car. Well he never took it in for maintenance. Two years later, the engine is junk, literally.

The only way to ensure a good reliable used car is to get maintenance records of the car, receipts of service done, etc. Get it mechanically inspected, a compression test is a good idea to determine the condition of rings and valves.

Only then can you know if the used car is going to be reliable.
