I miscarried at 11.5 weeks back in 3/2000. I had started bleeding (like a period) a few days before it happened and I then went in for an ultrasound. The ultrasound confirmed that I had a blighted ovum (the fertilized egg stopped growing) and I could do nothing but wait for the miscarriage to actually happen (about 4 days later). Bleeding does not always mean a miscarriage and be sure that they do an ultrasound before having any procedures done (it is common to perform a D&C after a miscarriage to make sure everything comes out). I had a friend who miscarried and fortunately turned down the D&C only to find out a few weeks later that she had been carrying twins and would have aborted the surviving one had she gone ahead with the D&C. Also, if you do have a miscarriage, make sure to get the support you need. It is a very difficult thing to go through, but there is usually hope. Most women who miscarry go on to have healthy babies. I just had my 3rd baby since my miscarriage and all 3 are strong and healthy. Good luck to you.

Actually, at seven weeks I started cramping and spotting -- was sure i was going to miscarry: my daughter turns 11 next month!
Answer -- you would only know if you either started bleeding heavily or if, after you've been feeling fetal movement, you feel nothing.
I hope this isn't happening to you -- if you are getting signs, sit down, put your feet up, relax, and call the doctor. They will know what to do....most of all, don't give up hope. I didn't, and my daughter was born on schedule!

I had absolutely no warning signs, matter of fact, the nurse announced "Congratulations, your pregnant" it was my first visit to the dr. When the dr sent to listen to the heartbeat, there wasn't one, then to the ultrasound, which revealed that the baby just stopped growing. I was 12 weeks. sometimes there are signs and sometimes there are not. Evidently what I experienced is not all that rare. Good news! I am now 4 months pregnant and everything appears normal and healthy.

Good Luck and God Bless!
