Those comments from the others are ridiculous!! You can hold your baby after a c-section...right away. AND you can pick them up...Just no heavy lifting for six weeks, to give the scar time to heal. I went through labour, then ended up needing an emergency C-section. My second section was planned.

The pros to a C-section are that you skip the whole labour part, and are rested and relaxed going into it. There is a very fast recovery rate (up and walking around after 4 hours). The scars today are unnoticable when they fade. No tearing, bruising, damage to worry about.

Now there are obviously some cons to a section as well. First of all it is major surgery. Second, it is uncomfortable for about a week trying to get from laying down to sitting, or standing. Tylenol 3 or torridol will be prescribed. I found I didn't need it after about day 3. You really do need more help around the house for a while. Especially if you have other children. (Not really a bad thing to be pampered though) No lifting heavy objects or sweeping and vacuuming.

Consider the pros and cons of each method, and take into consideration your medical history before deciding...but don't listen to the horror stories (for either way) most people come through the process just fine!

I would say vaginal birth, quicker recovery time, I was up walking later that day. My sister had a c section and she could only hold her daughter while she was in the bed, she couldn't get up and carry her for like a week after wards. My mom was over at her house all the time. A c-section is major surgery on top of delivering a child. She was in bed ofr like 1 or 2 weeks. It hurt a lot when getting in and out of bed. After all was over with and things returned to normal she found out that she cannot lose that little tummy pudge because of the scar from the c-section. She is tiny like 4'10" and 105 soaking wet. I would definately chose vaginal delivery every time. ...and besides most Dr.s don't let you chose and if you did chose c-section or have a c-section and wanted a vaginal for the next one finding a Dr. to deliver VBAC is very difficult.

There are many reasons the dr. may choose a section as opposed to a vaginal birth. When a baby is in fetal distress the dr. will do a section to quickly remove the baby from that situation and relieve distress such as drop in fetal heart rate, cord wrapped around the babys' neck, danger to the mother, and so on. Also, if the baby is to large and can't pass through the birth canal safely the dr. will do a section. When there is no apparent danger to the baby or the mother the dr. will proceed with a vaginal delivery. In the instance of an emergency the birth may start off as vaginal and end as a c-section depending on how far along you are in labor.

In Canada we don't have a choice unless the doctor is unwilling to a VAC (vaginal after csection) or baby is not positioned properly and the doctor is unable (or unwilling) to deliver the baby vaginally, safely.

I had a vaginal for my twins, only because both were head down, therefore I did not require a csection. I still delivered in the O.R. as opposed to a birthing room, just in case the 2nd baby turned while the first one was being born, in that case I would have required an emergency c-section.

Women are not given a choice here in Canada (may be different in the usa) There is always a valid reason as to why a women recieves a csection, therefore, in my opinion, both are adequate ways to give birth

Vaginal birth is better.I had 1 vaginal birth and 2 c-sections.I had my son natural so I was up and walking around right after I had him.The 2 c-sections weren't as bad as people put them out to be.But if I could choose I would have wanted all vaginal births.

Vaginal because your vagina can heal faster than a scar. Yes C-section is the easy way out and less pain but there's nothing lke the feeling of your child coming out vaginally. Only get a C-section if it is MANDATORY! But other wise vaginal. C-section is TOO EASY. Even though to this day I curse my child for having me in labor for 8 hours but looking at her, it was worth the pain, agony, and waiting.

I've had both and there is good & both for both. It really does depend on the person. My 2nd, the c-section was 8 weeks premature & breach, so it was an emergency. I, personally liked the c-section better. I was taken into the operating room, had the baby, & back out in an hour. The good thing with c-section is no long labor, no tearing. It took a little while longer to recover, but worth it. I got to see him right away, then about 2 hours later, I went to the nursery to see him. The next day, I held him, it was pretty much the same. The scar isn't too big and is so low down, that not everyone is going to see it.

I had vaginal and I wouldn't want it any other way, except if I was told that I need a c-section. I think that c-sections should be left for emergency situations and for women that it is not possible to deliver naturally.

Vaginal birth because you are already going to have alot of responsibility taking care of a newborn and I would rather enjoy spending all my time taking care of my baby rather than worrying about my stitches and making sure not to do anything to tear them out. I've had 3 boys, all vaginally and I wouldn't want to do it any other way.

I had an emergency c-section. I was so bummed out because I didn't get to have the birthing experience that I wanted. I pictured delivering my son and them putting him on my belly and me getting to hold him and it all being perfect. With my c-section because it was an emergency because he had swallowed meconium and his heart rate was dropping real low they pulled him out immediately and I didn't even get to see him until after i was transported to my room after I had left my recovery room. I was so drugged up after the c-section they had put me on morphine and I personally don't remember seeing my son that night. I have no pictures from when he was first born and no pictures of his first day being born because he was in the NICU under an oxi-hood for two days. I really wish I could have had a vaginal birth. A friend of mine also had a c-section and her baby got to be in the room with her but she was so out of it from the drugs as well that she was too weak to even hold her baby at all that night she had her baby. I would prefer to attempt a VBAC for the second baby but my doctor has already advised me that if I have another baby I will have to have another c-section which bums me out.
The recovery time was not as bad as I thought it would be though I did have to sleep in a recliner chair for a while afterwards because our bed is really high and I just couldn't do it. But I kept walking and moving around not overdoing it but making sure I really worked the muscles and so I was good 2 weeks afterwards.

ALSO NOT EVERYONE HEALS AND HAS THE SAME EXPERIENCE AS OTHERS IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE PERSON YOU MIGHT GET LUCKY AND BE TOTALLY FINE BUT I KNOW PERSONALLY I DIDN'T HAVE THE ENERGY TO DO ANYTHING AFTERWARDS BECAUSE I WAS SO TIRED BUT I HAD ALSO LABORED FOR 27+ HOURS AND ALSO PUSHED FOR 5 HOURS SO IT DEPENDS ON THE PERSON. YOU DON'T GET TO HOLD YOUR BABY LIKE YOU WOULD WANT TO AFTER A C-SECTION ESPECIALLY IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE BIRTH OR THE BABY NEEDS IMMEDIATE CARE. I WAS ABLE TO HOLD AND CARRY MY SON AROUND BUT IT WAS A TAD UNCOMFORTABLE. I AM SURE HAVING A PLANNED C-SECTION WOULD BE A BIT BETTER BECAUSE YES YOU WOULD BE MORE PREPARED AND HAVE MORE ENERGY BUT IF YOU HAVE A C-SECTION AFTER ATTEMPTING A VAGINAL BIRTH YOU ARE EXHAUSTED. NONE OF THESE ANSWERS ARE RIDICULOUS THESE WOMEN ARE GIVING THEIR OPINIONS ON WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT VAGINAL AND/OR C-SECTIONS THERE ARE NO REDICULOUS ANSWERS WHEN YOU HAVE BEEN THROUGH EITHER OR PERSONALLY!!!!!!!!!!
