It may be different from area to area, but in my area, the people who ring the bell for the Salvation Army are the same people that have no place to live, and don't have a job, so they stay at the Salvation Army. And no, they don't get paid here.

Some are volunteers, some are paid. It is a favorite holiday job for retirees in this area and there is a waiting list every year. The pay is poor but it give them a little extra money to spend on christmas.

Yes. Most in our area are usually part of their program. I just heard on the radio this morning that one guy would ask for extra money for himself to buy lunch. They don't get paid a lot ($6.00) so maybe legit. Be careful. Some are volunteers and do not get paid.

no they are volunteers
and quite frankly they are actualy people living from the salvation army basically working fore there bed and board and they are mostly criminals ..last year i knew someone who just got out of jail living in a half way house doiing time community service for the salvation army and guess what he was a drug addict and i found out in january he was back in jail for ripping off the salvationm army..he was a ringer and was stealing the money..
want to make a donation go directly to the salvatiion army or toys for tots or the red cross...

Yes, and no. There are volunteers who do not get paid, and there are people that for example live in homeless shelters, who do get paid. Usually around six dollars an hour.

Most of them are volunteers. However, not all are. In fact, some of them are actually getting paid an amount of money close to minimum wage.
