I usually answer my phone with "what's up".
Or if I know it's someone with a sense of humor, I'll say crap like "Grand central station, how may I direct your call?" or "Gene's Taxadermy, you stick'um, we stuff'um!" or "Hi, thank you for calling Pizza Hut, will this be carry out or delivery?" or "we're sorry, the number you are trying to reach is temporarily out of service, please try your call again later." or, since it's christmas time, try just a friendly Merry Christmas!
It's always fun to totally confuse telemarketers or bill collectors too with those!

You could say Shalom (your last name) but strangers might think you're jewish. Or you could say bon jour!
If you have caller ID and you know that person persoonally(not a business) just say hi (insert name here)

what i usually do is if its a friend, i'll say "whats up" when i answer, or if i'm expecting an important conversation from the friend, i'll say "talk to me". or you could always just be like "heyyy!" hahaha have fun!

if u hav a cell phn,u can just call the caller by his/her name..or adres him/her by sweeti or honey as per ur reltion wid the being..for unknowns u can adres by yo! or hey! or if ur name is say"geny" iu can say "geny this side"....there r many,bt i need to think more..lol.
