NO NO NO NO and NO!
I don't know for sure if this is what caused my complications or not, But I can only assume, Since I've had 2 other births that were 'normal'...
I took Castor Oil for 3 days straight @ 39 weeks..Hoping to make something happen, Well, The 3rd day- I was lying in bed, I coughed, (Sorry for the gross details) felt something wet in my underwear, Went to the bathroom to check and see what it was- It was blood...Bright red blood @ that, Before I could get myself cleaned up and what not, I passed a HUGE blood clot, It was the size of a baseball..We got the to ER, I was hooked up to all the monitors, And told if my bleeding didn't stop or at least slow down, They would have to do an emergency c-section, I was given a Pitocin drop (Which makes your contractions come FAST and HARD, Which is VERY painful in comparison to contractions coming on their own)...All the while still bleeding, Though it did slow down a little bit...Anyway- I had my daughter vaginally, But the scare was horrible...Her heartbeat also kept dropping down really low, I would NOT reccomend Castor Oil to my worst enemy!
IWalking walking walking walking, Is what put me into labor with my 2nd child...Also read that sex, and nipple stimulation helps!
Best of luck to you, And my sympathies go out to you for having a complicated pregnancy! :-)

You only have a week to go so why not just wait it out one more week. You have made it 37 weeks so far so I would just hold off, as hard as that is to do it will be better in the end. Give your baby another week inside your womb to make sure she is good and ready to come out. Castor oil is not good for your baby. I would not recommend that, it will dehydrate you and your baby. So just start walking. Try some nipple stimulation if you have a breast pump already try using that for 15 minutes every few hours or so, other than that just walk walk walk. One more week hun and it will all be over with. Best of luck to you and I am sorry you had a bad pregnancy experience. It will all be worth it when you see your little girl for the first time.

Castor Oil will make you very very sick. You will vomit and have terrible cramps and diaherra. This is not a good thing to do to yourself when you should just be relaxing and trying to stay as healthy as possible. If the doctor is going to deliver early, then you only have 1 week to go!! There is a reason why doctors wait as long as they can. Give your baby it's best chance for a healthy life and try and be patient.

Hi,
I hope things are going better for you. Here is a study (from pubmed) that says
Fifty-two women received castor oil and 48 were assigned no treatment. Following administration of castor oil, 30 of 52 women (57.7%) began active labor [within 24 hours] compared to 2 of 48 (4.2%) receiving no treatment. When castor oil was successful, 83.3% (25/30) of the women delivered vaginally.
HOWEVER I read that it can cause the baby to pass meconium which isn't good.
Caesarean section (P less than 0,01) and low Apgar scores (P less than 0,001) were significantly more common in pregnancies complicated by fetal meconium passage. Meconium passage was more common in women who had recently taken castor oil.
Good luck to you, I hope you have a happy healthy baby. But it won't be much longer anyway, my advice would be to let your baby come when he/she is ready.

its already been said but again leave the castor oil alone and excercise by walking and intercourse. the chemicals in sperm will help you if you are ready. Also nipple stimulation will help but if you are going to breast feed you might want to be careful. I'm not sure how much colostrum or how all that works.

Try sex, sex, and more sex. Then between sessions go out walking for fresh air. Then go back to the sex. Worked for me. Good luck and congrats
