santa is based on a real person, then the magic evolved and Mrs. Clause was added. so why is mother nature a woman and father time a man?

OK. I am female. The answer is simple. Santa Claus history - Saint Nicholas, Kris Kringle, etc. was a man. He married and there is Mrs. Claus.

Think about this, if Santa were a female and got married Mr. Claus would be at the North Pole and she would be out delivering the presents. (Actually I think it would be pretty cool if they both delivered the presents.)

It is perfectly alright for a female to dress as Santa (to ring the bells for Salvation Army or play the role for children). But just remember - Santa is a guy, whether played by a female or not.

Let's not confuse the children.

He ask me if I would take over the roll of Santa and talk to the kids because the one they hired got drunk and past out. My make-up was so good and my voice so deep he never knew I was a woman till I pick-up my check. They had me back the next year.

In Scandinavia there IS a female Santa of sorts.

I can't remember what she's called, but she is a young woman who wears a wreath lighted with candles on her head and passes out gifts to children.

Often, if there is a teen-aged daughter in the household, she will play the role.

It probably goes back to St. Nicholas, and he was a guy so traditionally guys fulfilled that role in reenactments.

Be Santa if you want. I don't think anyone would mind. Santa is a feminine word anyway.

Because Santa is sent out to peddle the presents.

Cold night air, ticks on the reindeer, rooftops, chimneys, Air Traffic Control clearances.....Mrs. Claus wants no part of that.
