My friend isnt a stereotypical gay at all. But there are many things about him that make me question it. he often touches me affectionately or hugs me. I have absolutely no problem with the fact that he may be gay but i would just feel better if i knew. would it be better to simply ask him or wait and see.

Ask him if he's dating anyone. If he is, ask who. If he's not, ask who he'd wanna be set up with. Pay attention to the pronouns he uses.
That, or you could just ask directly "hey, uh, are you into guys?"

I recommend buying him a season of "Queer as Folk" on DVD for Christmas. If he says "Oh I just love that show and Brian Kinny is so HOT, then he is gay".

Admit it, isn't that kinda sweet to watch him stumble through it, knowing that eventually, he's going to get it all figured out? (kinda like watching a newborn fawn try and take its first steps)
