A friend of me and my fiancee's husband wants to go to Cairo for six months, he has told her that he will leave her if she doesn't go and they have been married for 5 years. The relationship is constantly on the rocks anyway and they don't have anything of their own, everything even their house was handed to them by the girls mom, but the guy has been talking to his best friend and is dead set on the Cairo trip, so if you were her, would you go?

I would tell him, fair winds, and file for divorce. NO one gives me ultimatums, not even my husband. There are ways to resolve any situation peacefully, and to both people's satisfaction - but if a person chooses to be disrespectful, and present me with an ultimatum instead, it is simply a sign for more sh1t to come. Why would I stick around?

(Truthfully, I personally would LOVE to go live in Cairo - but in this case it's not about the location, it's about the way the situation is handled.)

If he's willing to break up the marriage because of a trip to Cairo, then there are obviously bigger issues at work here. Let him go and see what happens when he gets back. Who wants to be in a relationship where one person gets to call all the shots anyways?

I'd get an attorney and file for divorce before he leaves. If the relationship has always been rocky, and he's handing her an ultimatum, what's the point in staying married? She needs to handle this now and have him served. At least if he doesn't respond or show up, she'll be able to divorce him by default. She should check the laws in her state, but I'd say "Here's a suitcase. May I help you pack?"

Egypt is a very backward place with the threat of deadly diseases and unhyginic living conditions. She may be scared to go to such a place. If she doesnt go with him and they are separate for 6 months their relationship may improve. You never know. It may do them good. Personally I would not go and live at such a place for so long. If it is just for sight seing for 2 days it is ok with me.

Hell no. If he loved her then he wouldn't give her an ultimatum like that. He's an *** and he seems to be very superficial and shallow. She can do a lot better. She should say no and maybe she will call his bluff if she is still unsure.

Sounds like he really doesn't love her. She needs to put her foot down and say no!
