I know. Right? haha
Well, people like to believe that 1)beauty is in the eye of the beholder 2)beauty is skin deep 3)we are all beautiful in our own way... blah blah
But I agree with you. If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and the ugly person's eye sees ugliness when they look in the mirror, then that person must just be honest and not suffer from low self esteem.
now if we go with the second or third belief, then the person has low self esteem because they dont see how beautiful they really are.

ugly is a negative word. So people assume if someone thinks they are ugly, they feel negatively about themselves. Society places too much emphasis on beauty. It's hard for people to understand that someone has self-esteem due to intelligence/athletic ability/etc., because it's not as obvious to the entire world. It's the same if someone acknowledges that they are fat, but they love their curves.

First of all there is no such thing as an "ugly" person. Physical traits are what they are, but they do fade over time. We are all made in God's image. The person you need to be concerned about is someone ugly on the inside (meaning their heart) because if you are ugly on the inside, it makes you ugly on the outside, no matter what you look like.
Something you may want to think about...

We live in a society that idolizes Beauty and Youth. Therefore, people assume that when somebody believes he is not beautiful _even worse, ugly- they can:t imagine that this person has just clear icon of himself and nothing more. His self esteem might be perfect because he is a good person, he earns his living, he is educated, has a nice family, is healthy etc.etc. It is just the Values of our Society that lead people to the conclusion you describe.

Ugly...In whose eyes?
There are actually people out there that appear "ugly" to most but just happens to be someone elses princess.
If she says "I'm ugly, but I don't care what anyone thinks.", then that's ok.
If she says "I'm ugly", then it's a low self esteem thing.

Because the word "ugly" is such a strong and negative word.
If you think you're ugly, I can't help but assume you have low self esteem. I personally feel everyone has beauty in them, so I rarely find people ugly.
When I think ugly, I think bad attitude, evil heart, or extremely disconfigured face...
i dunno that's just me :)

Because we are more than just our looks. To focus on imagery would suggest the person lacks a sense of self. I honestly think it depends on the context of the statement. If they say it unemotionally and without expectation of a reaction than I might agree with them. But, even still beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
There aren't many circumstances where speaking about ones looks doesn't play a part on their ego. But why complain about something you can't control. Complaining about what we can't control shows a lack in control and acceptance. Which would seem to me a character flaw.

because when an ugly person is confident and have high self esteem, then they are ugly and ignorantly blissful. i hate fat ugly people who talk about how good they look all the time, it makes them ugly and dumb. i think that ugly people who are humble are great.
