I had one placed almost 2 years ago and yes doctor set the appt at the time of my period. Here is a little more reading on IUD's.

No; in fact there is a higher chance of spontaneous expulsion of the IUD during your period. They will have you come in at least 1 week after but not more than one week before your period.

No the reason why most Dr want until you are on your period is because
like this they are certain that you are not pregnant
The blood gives some added lubrication for the insertion
and when you are on your period your cervix is slightly open.

I had mine inserted 4 weeks after I delivered my son.

No. You should call your doctor to discuss the best time for you. It might just be a matter of placing the order and sitting up the appointment.

I had mine done while on my period. They told me it was less painful because the cervix is open a little. I had no pain at all. Also that way they know you are not pregnant.

no. actually they want to do it about a week after you come off your period
