It could be that you are running low on hard drive space or RAM. Also, you could have spyware and/or viruses, use the following programs to check and clean up:

Spyware Tools:

This is probably the most common question from any newbie pc user. It could be one of many things but the usual is to make sure that your pc specifications meet the software's requirements that you use. Check for viruses by getting AVG free and scanning. Check for adware/spyware using adaware or spybot. If none of these work and your system is of a reasonable performance, i'd try uninstalling a few unused programs in the add/remove programs feature in control panel. If that doesn't work, try purchasing some more memory as this is a very useful resource for the computer to use.

Try this it worked for me. Plus its fast.
1. Click the start menu
2. Click Run
3. Type in msconfig and press "OK"
4. Click on Services top right, next to start up.
5. Click on "Hide all Microsoft Services" (Programs needed to run windows)
6. Click on "Disable all"
7. Now click on Startup (top right)
8. Disable All(Disabling all Stupid programs not needed to run windows.
9. Click Apply then close.
10. It will ask you to restart for changes to take effect. "RESTART" You will notice the difference as it boots. If no Difference. More than likely Hardware issues.

Delete old programs that you don't use anymore or forgot that you still have on your computer. (Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs)
Delete Temporary Internet Files and Cookies (Control Panel - Internet Options)
Depending on your version of Windows, run Scheduled Tasks as Disk Cleanup, Scan Disk, and Disk Defragmentation periodically.

Tell us if it just started running slow or has it always been slow?
Did you add anything or change configurations recently? Is it slow running certain apps, opening certain apps, or are you referring just to accessing the Internet? Offer as many details as you can for a proper diagnosis.

If it is Windows XP try defragging (start>all prograns>accessories>system tools>disk defragmenter), and/or use Disk Cleanup (same directory except file name is "disk cleanup"), and last but not least delete internet cookies (unneeded)(C:\Documents and Settings\*username*\cookies

Cheapest ways would be to add more ram, defrag your harddrive, etc.

More expensive, upgrade the motherboard/cpu and ram.

de frag. Delete stuff you don't need. If that doesn't help, maybe your comp is outdate...and you need a new one.
